From the Desk of a Small Business Owner:
As the glitter clears from a busy holiday season, and the ball of the new year falls, it is time to recharge, review and look ahead to a new year.
Running a small business is not for the faint of heart; Our business plans do not reflect big dollar investments, big bonuses or frankly, time off. Of course, the sacrifice and dedication can be tough. But, don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, the rewards are many, and being able to continue this journey another year brings me so much joy and I am truly thankful.
I want to take time to say thank you to every person who walks into my storefront, whoever has called to place a custom order, places an order online and yes, even someone who’s called with a complaint; I appreciate all of you!
As I reflect, and start to write my list of ‘things and thoughts’ for my future, I get excited and look forward to creating new gifts, meeting new clients and working within my community and network groups.
With our hard work and the help of the community of Frederick, myself, our philosophy, and the business has been able to grow to an unexpected level. The opening of our new warehouse allows us to expand our retail space along with meeting the needs of the local corporate communities.
In terms of the future of our store and its products, we want to focus on the most important times in peoples’ lives, milestones of life. Let the Frederick Basket Co. help you celebrate anniversaries, retirements, weddings, promotions, house warmings,(any important milestone you can think of!), etc. by giving incredibly designed arrangements and gifts. In 2023, we as a business and community are going to reach new levels!
When we talk about growth in the business, It’s not about running a store for profits, it’s about building connections, giving back to my community and using the power of gifting and human comradery to create a better place for me, my family, and my community. To make steps in making change in my community, I have become a new member of the Board of Women’s Business Network of 2023. I want to encourage and support local women in business. Using networking, it will help embolden and strengthen a community that needs more voices and support. Also becoming active in the Chamber of Commerce of Frederick County gives me a new opportunity to work for their cause, which I very much look forward to doing.
As a small business owner, my goal is to give back to the community that was able to support my goal in manifesting the goal of the Frederick Basket Co.; Making a better community for Frederick. My hope for 2023 is for new opportunities to help others around me, and for everyone to do the same.
